Poem: The Altar

When we kiss, it’s like I’m praying at your altar
Neck deep in amity; enveloped by your warmth

When apart, anxious longing
Submerged in a reservoir of thought; bobbing in your swell

Men have perished for less
Died well, aflame in devotion
Free of pity as the sun sets

When we embrace, I can’t but ponder
Swaying like reeds in the tide; whispering tender words

When away, questions linger
Swimming sideways with your current; pushed slowly downstream

I could drown in you
Calm; only thrashing for a moment
Content as I breathe you in
